I need your help!!! What beverages should be served at a formal dinner?

I know this is silly but I need your help. I’m hosting a formal dinner for Christmas this year for 40 people. I’m using my formal china and waterford crystal. The menu has been planned and I had intended to serve water, iced tea, and wine with the meal. My husband had agreed, saying it all sounded great until he talked with his sister and mother. Now they are offended that I won’t be serving cokes. I tried explaining that you don’t pour coke into a crystal goblet but he’s taking their side. I know it is a silly argument, but what is the proper etiquette here? (besides the fact that it is rude to dictate what your host serves) PLEASE Help.

I’m not sure anyone is allergic to water – so allergies are covered. And I do break out the expensive toilet paper for certain areas – doesn’t everyone?

I’ve looked at some sites for Waterford crystal . I see wine glasses, water glasses, even pilsners and old fashioned glasses. i don’t see coke glasses anywhere. . they can have a coke AFTER the formal dinner, when everyone is sitting around in the family room.
