I want to attach a keyboard tray to my desk?
My desk is glass with metal framing. Is there a way to securley attach a keyboard tray to this type of desk. All the ones ive seen online make it look like you have to drill it into the wood of the desk, and obviously i cannot do this. Are there ones that work differently, and if so where can i find them?
You may have to locate a local metal shop who can make a set of brackets for you that would look good with your desks frame.
Assuming that there is a brace for the top running front to back on both sides of your table. You could have the shop cut a length of square tubing that matches the finish of your desk frame, which could span from one leg to the other, across the area where the keyboard tray would mount. These supports would be attached with a bolt to the legs, and the keyboard supports could be pop riveted to the supports.
Another solution is to get a couple of metal or even wood plates made, that are at least 4 inches wide and also at least 4 inches longer than the bracket on the keyboard trays you are looking at.
These could be attached directly to the bottom of the glass desk using a high strength epoxy. Since the will be visible through the table, you must make sure they are finished well before they are glued into place, so they look good when finished.
Rotate the table upside down, to glue the blocks, allowing the weight of the tray and gravity to hold the blocks against the glass. I would give this overnight if possible to cure before righting the table, and another 24 hours before putting into use.
