Roses encased in precious metals like silver & gold are becoming very popular. Now imagine in hand made crystal that looks like the other precious crystal pieces you’ve collected in your home. Crystal roses would be a beautiful addition to any collection. However, if you’re not yet the proud owner of a crystal collection, a crystal rose can be the beginning of something that can continue to grow in the future. Whatever the case, a crystal rose is a treasure that can be appreciated in the manys years to come.
Did you know that glass has existed since three thousand years BC? Nobody knows for sure when or where glass was invented. Crystal came into existence much later, and created when an Englishman named George Ravenscroft discovered crystal in 1676.
Crystal glass was made for the first time in Europe. There were factories in France, Italy, Germany, & the Czech Republic. Crystal comes from mixing sand & lead oxide & according to the degree of skill in each factory’s polishing machinery, the clarity in crystal varies. Because of iron found in sand, a greenish colour is usually produced after mixing. It’s for this reason that factories try to find the purest form of white sand.
Benefits of using the lead when making crystal will result in heavier, shinier, more transparent and brighter crystal pieces However, with lead content, this also means the crystal will be soft & fragile. The lead present in the crystal gives it a glistening effect that’s highly valued through out the world.
With today’s environmental problems, the lead in crystal glass is often replaced by a substance called lead free optical crystal. This type of crystal is very flexible & malleable. The most beautiful piece of crystal art is in the form of a crystal rose.
When buying a crystal rose you can rest assured that no two will have a similar appearance, which only increases the attractiveness of each piece. Roses have always represented eternal love, but crystal rose need not mean anything in particular other than admiring the beauty of art immortalised in one of the world’s most beloved flowers. In the future when thinking of buying a bouquet of roses, that will only be of temporary value, why not decide on a crystal rose instead?
